Lesson 1: Handmade Art Journal

In our first lesson we will be making a handmade art journal, small enough to take with you on some garden walks or to keep in your bag so you are ready to create when inspiration strikes! Art journals are a great way to stay loose and experiment with new techniques or art supplies. We will fill our pages with beautiful colors, detailed mark-making and collage elements.

Lesson 2

Mounted Florals on a Wooden Panel

In our 2nd lesson we will creating a mixed media piece on watercolor paper which then will be mounted on a wooden cradle board for a polished look and feel. Pick your color palette from one of the art journal spreads, or use mine to follow along. We will be creating a little floral explosion by building up the petals with paints, pencils and wax crayons, while using collage pieces to add on depth and color saturation.

Lesson 3

Blooming Bouquet on Canvas

In Lesson 3 we will create a beautiful bouquet flowing with rounded floral shapes on canvas that will be rich in color and detail. We will be primarily painting with acrylic paints while mixing in some acrylic inks as well. Staying loose with our brush strokes in the beginning and then fine tuning towards the end.

First time for me making my very own art journal from scratch - a lot easier than I thought! Great instructions, lots of advice on paints, paper and brushes. Lesson one is all about putting done the background, making those little marks, adding details, using different media - collage, washi tape, inks, crayons - whatever you have. Two episodes are devoted to painting those gorgeous ‘rosette’ flowers, loosely twirling the paint brush to achieve those swirls. The second lesson takes what you’ve learnt from lesson one, to apply theory and techniques to make your own beautiful art and to showcase on a wooden panel. The third lesson, Blooming Bouquet Painting, is the ‘icing on the cake’ - again using the know how gained in the previous lesson, Andrea takes you step by step on how to create your own ‘bouquet’ in beautiful colours - I was so pleased with mine - I’m a novice so to be able to create something so lovely, in a fun and relaxing way, is just fabulous.

Please know that it is not my intention for you to purchase all the supplies! You may have a lot of these already, and I always suggest that you use your favorites supplies on hand. And, always stay true to the colors that you love. All my lessons can easily be done in a color palette of your choosing. No, I encourage you to work with what you have and adapt the classes to suit your needs. I am all for mixing things up and experimenting with materials! Many students find it helpful to watch a class through first and then decide on their supply choices.
