"Petals + Play" Art Journaling Workshop
In this 2.5-hour live Zoom workshop, we’ll create a whimsical, abstract floral piece using acrylic paint, simple floral shapes, and playful collage. Whether you’re working in your art journal or on loose paper, you’ll be guided step-by-step through a colorful process designed to leave you full of joy and keep things fun—no perfection needed.
What We’ll Create
Bold. Whimsical. Full of Joy. We’ll paint playful floral shapes, add texture with collage, and finish with expressive details that make your piece pop. The end result? A one-of-a-kind mixed media floral artwork full of movement, color, and YOU. Work in an art journal or watercolor paper, it’s up to you!
What You’ll Learn
In this workshop, you’ll learn how to build a vibrant base using acrylics, then sketch in a whimsical floral design using chalk. We’ll explore how to add depth with layered collage—fun book pages, and fun patterned papers—and how to blend those layers seamlessly with more paint. You’ll also get to play with mixed media tools like paint pens to add texture and final details. Most importantly, you’ll be encouraged to let go of perfection and truly enjoy the creative process.
What You’ll Need
Simple supplies. Big impact. All you need is your art journal or mixed media paper, a few acrylic paints, a glue stick or matte medium, some collage scraps, and a playful attitude. A full supply list is included in your classroom!

If you’ve ever felt stuck or overthought your art, this is your chance to loosen up and embrace the process. I’ll guide you through techniques to layer, blend, and add playful details—but there are no rules here! You’ll learn to work with your materials intuitively, letting each layer unfold naturally as you create a page that feels uniquely yours.
Gathering Your Collage
Collage can add texture, history, and meaning to your art journal pages. Before class, take a few moments to collect pieces that spark joy or curiosity—things that feel good to touch, look at, or hold memories. You might gather vintage book pages, ticket stubs, handwritten notes, patterned papers, or even scraps from old letters. Keep an eye out for botanical elements like roses, daisies, or ferns, as well as soft, textured papers that complement your color palette. There are no rules—simply choose pieces that inspire you and bring them along to layer into your journal!
