In this workshop, you’ll discover how to let go of overthinking and embrace the process of layering, mark-making, and collage. Whether you’re a seasoned artist or just starting, this is your chance to experiment, explore, and make art that feels good without worrying about the outcome. Let’s play with color, texture, and movement, and bring creativity back to a place of joy!
Gelli Printing Magic
One of the most exciting ways to create dynamic, textured layers is through Gelli printing! In this session, you’ll get a fun 10-minute demo on how to use a Gelli plate to make unique, one-of-a-kind prints. You’ll learn how to layer color, experiment with textures, and use stencils or mark-making tools to create stunning collage papers. No Gelli plate? No worries! You can watch and learn, then try later—or use alternative methods to add texture.

Building Layers with Collage, Texture + Mark-Making
Once you have your collage pieces, it’s time to start building layers! You’ll learn how to combine painted papers, torn edges, and bold mark-making to create an expressive art journal spread. We’ll explore intuitive composition, playful placement, and how to make your page feel cohesive while still looking spontaneous. This is where your creativity comes alive—there’s no right or wrong way, just endless possibilities!
Bringing It All Together
In the final step, we’ll bring everything together into a finished abstract art journal page that’s full of texture, color, and expressive marks. You’ll see how simple adjustments—like adding a pop of contrast, defining shapes, or making final mark-making choices—can bring your piece to life. Your page will be a reflection of your creative journey, and no two will ever be the same! Most importantly, you’ll walk away feeling inspired, confident, and excited to keep creating.
